Meet Our Executive Team 2025-2026

Mesai James

President

4th Year; Double Major in Neuroscience and Immunology

Hey Everyone! Born and raised in Toronto, I come from a diverse household; my father is Jamaican, and my mother is half St Vincent and Métis. This background gives me a multi-layered perspective on the world, which I hope to apply to expand the BSA in terms of cultural connections, whether through food, clubs, or music. In my spare time, I love to draw, watch TV shows, and play sports. In the future, I aspire to become a doctor or clinician scientist to uplift Black and Indigenous individuals who may be receiving care.

I joined the BSA because I have attended numerous of their events and collaborated on some, including Building Futures, as a Black Student Engagement Assistant. I have also hosted events as Vice-President Internal. Overall, I enjoy the positive energy they bring to the University of Toronto through an extremely diverse range of events. I am grateful for the opportunity to hear Black voices within the community and to create a space for students to engage with others, whether in a social or academic setting.

Fun Fact: I have gotten four teeth pulled and none of those were my wisdom teeth

Irene Olayinka

Vice-President Internal

4th Year; English, Political Science, & Applied Data Science

I'm a fourth year UofT student and proud cat mom :) I love reading and writing, and when I'm not doing either of those, you'll probably find me at a niche café enjoying an overpriced cappucino. This year, I'm looking forward to putting on more events for artists and creatives.

I've been a part of the BSA since my first year, and every year I've loved watching people build community at events I helped organize. I'm looking forward to being a part of a group I've gotten so much love from.

Fun Fact: I've been working in libraries since I was 16!

Nkem Enuma

Vice-President External

5th year; Double Major in Global Health and Cellular & Molecular Biology, Minor in Sociology

I am proudly Nigerian, Igbo specifically, with hopes of working institutionally to revolutionize public health. This will be my third and final year on the BSA team, I am elated to be the Vice President External once again and I know that this year, I will continue to be a catalyst for change within the BSA community and the University of Toronto as a whole. You can often find me watching movies and anime (Castlevania and Attack on Titan has me in a chokehold), reading, makeup and fashion, and more recently, crocheting hats that look like socks.

The BSA isn't merely an organization; it's a catalyst for change and a platform for amplifying marginalized voices. Through planning and participating in BSA events, I've witnessed firsthand how these initiatives can shift perspectives and foster meaningful connections. The sense of unity and solidarity within the BSA is unparalleled, providing a space where individuals can find acceptance, empowerment, and inspiration. This year, I rejoined the BSA to continue to build this space through events and initiatives, all while having fun.

Fun Fact: I am obessed with Lego! My latest creations are the Formula 1 Ferrari F24 and the Avengers Tower!

I am a Toronto native and here at UofT I am studying Life Sciences, specializing in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Outside of school I love to watch soccer and I am a Bayern Munich fan.

Favour Adegboro

Equity Officer

2nd Year; Life sciences

Hello, my name is Favour. I am an incoming second-year life science student with a strong passion for genetics. I am Nigerian and relocated here three years ago. Some of my hobbies include reading manga, watching UFC, and baking.

I was an executive member of the BSA in high-school and my first year of uni. I loved the sense of belonging I felt which motivated me join again this year. In addition to that, I want to create a space for Black students on Campus where they can feel heard, and safe.

Fun Fact: I make really good spaghetti

Femi Oludairo

Political Director

2nd Year; Political Science and Ethics, Society, and Law

I'm Nigerian and I lived there for 6 years before moving here in 2017. I love to read, shop, go to the beach, volunteer at events, and do fun activities with my friends and family. My favourite music genres are Afrobeats and R&B and my favourite artist at the moment is Wizkid. After I'm done with school, I hope to become a lawyer.

I joined the BSA because I believe it will be a great opportunity to connect with other Black students on campus, while engaging in enriching and exciting events. I love to learn about culture and diversity also, and this will be a great place to do that!

Fun Fact: I've lived in 10 different cities!

Titobi Oriola

Political Director

2nd Year; Political Science and International Relations

I’m a 2nd year political science and international relations student from Nigeria passionate about volunteerism, advocacy, and building community. Experiencing the high school systems in Nigeria and Canada has given me a unique insight into how they vary and what are the best of both worlds. I’ve been involved with my local YMCA, Boys and Girls Club Canada, RBC, and research right here at UofT! I love playing soccer, watching anime, and I cook great jollof rice and fried rice!

I joined the BSA to help bring people together. Change comes through inspiration and I’Fun Fact: My brother is an R&B Musician with +2,000 monthly listeners on Spotify!m glad to be a part of a team and an organization that can inspire high school, university, and graduate black students by showing them that there’s a community for them at UofT, there are opportunities for them at UofT, and most importantly, they belong at UofT. As a political director I aim to combine my experience in advocacy and leadership with my passion for politics to serve the Black Student body here at UofT.

Ellie Bouzi Laryea

Financial Director

3rd year; Double Major in Sociology and Public Health with a Minor in Women & Gender Studies

As the eldest sibling of 3, I have always had an interest in childcare and education. That said, more or less everything I do goes back to those passions. Having parents who are labour and human rights activists has always inspired me to speak up, and not remain silenced. Through leadership positions such as Summer Camp Director, and working with a Black women-led non-profit, I’ve been able to put all these parts of my life together, giving back and providing youth and children with opportunities to learn, striving to make change within systems that have not necessarily been built for us.

I joined the BSA because I believe it is important to surround yourself with people who not only understand but have also experienced every-day situations similar to your own. Being a part of the BSA allows me to connect with peers who live through the complexities of navigating educational systems as Black individuals, and also make it a fun, enjoyable, and safe environment. I wanted to contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive space for Black students on campus, as well as those who plan to join us in future years.

Fun Fact: I am vegan and I like to use at least one new recipe—whether baking or cooking—every week!

Amara Chukwu

Media Director

2nd Year; Political Science and Philosophy Double Major

I love music—playing it or listening to it, I’m always looking for new recommendations (bonus if it’s afrobeats). When I don’t have on my headphones, you can find me chatting away outside (I’m always looking for the next best nature spot) or catching up with the news: human rights coverage especially.

I also love to cook and bake and I’ve made it a mission to try one dish from as many cuisines that I can squeeze in.

UofT is big, and it feels all that bigger when you don’t have that community of people who can understand certain experiences—especially those commonly experienced by Black students. To join the BSA would be to join this community and that is why I’m here: for the fun, safe, and most of all, understanding Black Students’ Association.

Fun Fact: I co-founded my high school’s BSA!

My name is Olivia Mullings and I am a current Criminology and Sociology student, entering my third year at UofT. I love reading, cooking and trying new foods! I care deeply about equity, culture, and creating meaningful change. I’ve worked in both legal and community spaces, and I most recently mentored Black high school students through the Imani Black Academic Mentorship Program at UTSC. I’m always looking to grow, connect with thoughtful people, and explore where my interests can take me.

The Black Student Association is an essential part of Black Student Life on campus. As an undergraduate student, I have loved attending BSA events and getting to know other Black students through them. I joined the BSA to help continue this legacy, and as an education and outreach director, I hope to share this with new and future Black students!

Fun Fact: I was born in London, England!

Mona El Yass

Education & Outreach Director

2nd Year; Computer Science

Hi! I’m Mona Elyass, a second-year Computer Science student minoring in Graphical Information Systems and Statistics. I hope to pursue entrepreneurship in the Computer Science field. I’m Sudanese and was born and raised in Niagara. I love conversing with people and hearing about the experiences of others. I enjoy learning about new topics, especially when they touch on ethics - Moral dilemmas are my favourite thing ever.

I chose to join the BSA because I want to help build genuine connections within the student body at UofT. I hope to foster meaningful friendships and support systems between students on campus, allowing us to uplift one another and achieve our fullest potential during our time together. Through the BSA, I want to help create spaces where students can feel a sense of belonging, empowerment, and joy. Whether it’s through mentorships, events, or community initiatives, I look forward to working with the team in fostering those connections.

Fun Fact: I’ve been skydiving eight times

Amono Otto

Education & Outreach Director

3rd year; Double Major in Psychology and Neuroscience

I'm currently a third-year student double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. Outside of academics, I'm the university's flag football team and enjoy playing basketball in my free time. I spend much of my time studying and hanging out with friends around campus. I love being part of a community and find joy in meeting new people and building connections. Balancing school, sports, and social life keeps me engaged and motivated. I'm always open to new experiences and enjoy learning from the people around me.

I joined the BSA to meet other Black students and connect with people of similar cultural backgrounds and experiences. Since joining, I've created so many long-lasting friendships that have led to new opportunities as well. The BSA has allowed me to find a community of like-minded people on this campus, which can feel quite isolating at times. I hope to help foster a supportive environment as a new member on the executive team!

Fun Fact: I had polydactyly! (an extra pinky on each hand)

Esther Elvis-Isi

Education & Outreach Director

3rd year; Kinesiology and Physical Education

I am a third year kinesiology student aspiring to become an orthopaedic surgeon. I am a very outgoing individual and I love to try new things; I’m a big fan of learning. My favourite pastime is either reading, working out or playing a sport and I currently play on UofT’s flag football team. I also enjoy watching sports specifically futbol (“soccer”), I mainly watch the EPL and I support Arsenal. One of my goals in life is to visit at least 5 countries in each continent, I love travelling a lot. My family & God are the two most important things in my life, honestly don’t know where I would be without them. I’m looking forward to being a member of the BSA and can’t wait to work with my fellow execs!!

I joined BSA because for the past two years of my university journey, I have attended many BSA events that have positively impacted my university experience and I want to be able to give back to the community that has had a huge impact on me. I’m also looking forward to working with a group of like minded individuals to enhance the community of black/bipoc individuals at UofT. I started the BSA at my highschool and I saw how much it supported and uplifted the black community at the school, so I hope to continue to spread that type of positivity through my role on the BSA.

Fun Fact: I skipped two grades when I was in elementary school!

PAST BSA EXECUTIVE TEAMS

We pay tribute to the past and present BSA executives who are the backbone and pillars of the club and who have dedicated themselves to advocacy for their fellow Black students. I acknowledge the BSA membership, who, despite the hurdles that they may encounter on a daily basis, are constantly supporting the BSA’s endeavours and are truly the heart of the club.
This is also not to forget the BSA alumni, whose unparalleled struggles for equity measures have paved the way for the current and next generation of Black students here at the university, and whose efforts are never forgotten.
